It is our belief that performance at different levels of skill are Important for the confidence, self-esteem and growth of the student.
Having performed all over the world, Stevan Grebel has a wealth of experience and knowledge to pass on to his students. His
choreography has been widely applauded here in Alabama, and the U.S., as well as in Europe. The students have an opportunity to
learn and perform traditional classical ballets as well as contemporary and modern ballets.
The transition from classroom to stage is significant. Since ballet is a performing art, the experience of performing in a theater
setting is most valuable. Our students have at least two opportunities to perform each year - In THE NUTCRACKER and in the
Spring Concert. The Spring Concert also features students from the Stevan Grebel Center for Dance. Company members also
have the opportunity to perform in the Alabama Youth Ballet Star Concerts, in September and February. These short concerts were
created to give the students a chance to shine on their own in solo variations and small group dances. Other performance
opportunities such as elementary school performances and lecture/demonstrations will be featured through out the year.
The Youth Ballet Company is representative of different ages and skill levels, and students are accepted based on their commitment
and desire to be a part of a pre-professional company which adheres to the finest standards; where the students learn to work as a
part of one body, as well as to discover their utmost potential as individuals. The students are mentored and nurtured as they
progress in their dance studies.
Alabama Youth Ballet students must be enrolled in Tech III, IV, V or VI for the entire year, which includes tuition for all classes,
rehearsals and performances. We offer educational dance classes and performances to the community of the Jefferson-Shelby
counties area, and invite students from all areas to study and perform with us.
